Sensors Expo and Conference comes to Chicago in June

ANALYSTS WATCHING the market for sensors and related technologies say it is expanding at a phenomenal rate. By 2008, the worldwide sensors market is expected to exceed $15 billion. This year, the 2005 Sensors Expo & Conference is being held June 6–9 at Chicago’s McCormick Place.

Touted as the leading sensors event in North America, the conference program will provide attendees a chance to explore current trends in sensor technology including physical sensors, sensor networks, biosensors, MEMS/Nanotechnology, instrumentation and controls, intelligent systems, machine-to-machine communication, wireless sensing and IT technology.

A look at this year’s Sensors Expo & Conference program and a scan through its presentation tracks reveals that wireless sensor technology is still on everyone’s mind and remains a leading theme at the show.

Conference sessions are presented in five tracks:

1. Intelligent Systems–mart sensor solutions, intelligent systems, and embedded sensor solutions 
2. Networking & Communications–Current and future developments in wireless and M2M sensor communications 
3. Technology & Design–System design and implementation issues, as well as emerging technologies
4. Industry Applications–Sensing technology in real-world industry applications
5. Business Perspectives–From funding and growing your businesses and how to take full advantage of the latest sensing technologies

Of particular interest to machine builders might be session TD2 “Essential Technologies for Automated Measurements,” and TD5 “Non-Contact Torque Sensing Using Magneto-Strictive Technology,” June 7, 9:45 a.m. and June 8, 9:45 a.m., respectively.

Keynoters
Zack Kaplan and Keith Schacht, co-founders of Inventables, will deliver “Provocative Materials and Technologies,” an in-depth look at their unorthodox approach of developing unique product concepts through creative thinking. The June 7, 11 a.m. presentation will feature pictures, illustrations and several unexpected technologies that the Inventables research team recently discovered, as well as their vision of the real-world applications.

IBM’s vice president of Sensor Actuator Solutions, Robert L. Mayberry, will keynote on June 8, 11 a.m. and speak on “Sensors and On Demand Innovation in Manufacturing” This session say show promoters will focus on how sensing systems allow companies to respond to customer demand, market opportunities and potential threats on demand.
