The combined exposition will occupy all 800,000 square feet in the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, Ill. This reportedly will make the combined event one of the nation's largest design and manufacturing events. It hopes to attract 1,800 exhibiting companies and 50,000 attendees.
Canon Communications reports it’s implementing a co-location strategy for six of the eight specialty manufacturing tradeshows it acquired from Reed Elsevier in June 2006.
“Co-location is an important element of our strategy to integrate all of the Reed Elsevier shows into Canon’s existing platform of tradeshows servicing the $1 trillion advanced technology manufacturing sector,” says Charles McCurdy, Canon’s chairman and CEO. “This has created the four largest, annual design and manufacturing tradeshows in the country.” Canon adds that its co-location gives OEM buyers access to these “mega-events” in four geographical regions—the West, Midwest, Northeast, and Southeast—and it addresses industry concerns about flagging attendance and the proliferation of increasingly specialized tradeshows.
Canon’s strategy also will result in the Powder & Bulk Solids Southeast and Advanced Manufacturing Exposition (AM Expo) being co-located with the SouthPack, Automation Technology Expo (ATX), and Design and Manufacturing South shows in Atlanta on April 24-26, 2007, to create a 300,000-square-foot event with 800 exhibitors at the Georgia World Congress Center. Likewise, the NEPCON East/Electro show will be co-located with the OEM New England show in the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center in Fall 2007.
