The certification demonstrates Wilcoxon's commitment to the environment and dedication to reviewing the effect its operations have on the global community. The audit included a review of practices and programs concerning hazardous materials handling and usage, solid waste and recycling, and several environmental impact improvement projects. Wilcoxon has reviewed all applicable local, state and federal environmental regulations to ensure the company met or exceeded existing requirements.
The company’s corporate environmental policy has enabled continual improvement programs to be established, headed up by Quality Assurance Director John Churchill. “The ISO 14001 certification is a symbol of our commitment to be responsible members of the global community,” said Churchill. “Adherence to these standards has been invaluable in helping us significantly minimize the environmental impact of manufacturing operations.”
Published by the Internal Standards Organization, ISO 14001 establishes requirements for a company to analyze the impact it has on the environment, establish processes to improve its environmental impact, and ensure ongoing review and compliance with all environmental requirements. Certification by a third party registration service ensures a company has effectively implemented all ISO 14001 requirements. Registration is valid for three years, subject to annual audits by the registrar, and must be fully reviewed and renewed every three years. Wilcoxon was originally certified in 2006 and has just passed its three-year renewal audit.
Although ISO 14001 certification is voluntary, it is a requirement for Meggitt group companies. Wilcoxon’s certification is in line with Meggitt PLC’s corporate philosophy towards corporate responsibility and environmental protection. Strict environmental standards are applied to Meggitt operations worldwide and guide the entire organization’s environmental behavior.
