Looking to strengthen its position in industrial automation, Datalogic is acquiring PPT Vision, a player in the machine vision market for almost 30 years. The transaction, valued at more than $5 million, is expected to occur this month.
Datalogic counts among its products barcode readers, data collection mobile computers, and RFID and vision systems. PPT Vision develops solutions based on smart cameras, as well as industrial multi-camera vision systems used in quality control and inspection in the manufacturing industry.
“After our recent agreement for the acquisition of Accu-Sort Systems, which will allow us to double our presence in the field of industrial automation, Datalogic continues to seize every opportunity for growth and innovation,” said Mauro Sacchetto, Datalogic Group CEO. “In line with the strategy already announced, the acquisition of PPT Vision further strengthens our leadership, providing us with cutting-edge technologies which are unique in the field of machine vision.”
Datalogic has its eye on the machine vision market, which grew 54% to almost $1.8 billion in 2010 and has continued to see strong growth in 2011, according to the Automated Imaging Association (AIA). PPT Vision has more than 25,000 machine vision systems installed worldwide, and has four exclusive patents in the field.
