These network-integrated light curtains are equipped with an OpenSafety interface, which eliminates hardwiring requirements. These light curtains can evaluate each beam individually. This makes it possible to implement intelligent muting, for example, doing away with the sensors that were necessary for previous muting solutions. Safety functions such as muting and blanking can be programmed in B&R’s Automation Studio development environment. The amount of work needed for commissioning has been reduced, especially for equipment produced in series. Diagnostics also have been simplified, with information available in plain text instead of having to be decrypted from LEDs.
