A machine designer should ask him or herself whether an off-the-shelf product is able fulfill his/her application needs without having to pay for more features and functionality than is actually necessary. If so a custom solution is likely overkill. If not, a custom solution can provide improved performance while integrating unrelated functions into a single functional element – while actually lowering costs.
