Serial or Ethernet?

Wondering if it is time to move away from serial communications, mainly RS–232, RS–422 and RS–485, which are still used heavily in the industrial market? Now that Ethernet is the most common method for sending and receiving data, it is important to know how this will affect serial devices and serial connectivity. This paper will discuss situations where it makes sense to use serial and situations where Ethernet would be the better choice.
