Siemens has closed its acquisition of electronic design automation (EDA) software creators Mentor Graphics, expanding its software business and entering the integrated circuit and embedded software segment. Mentor joins the Siemens product lifecycle management (PLM) software business unit, which is within the Siemens Digital Factory division.

According to Siemens, this makes the combined organization the world’s leading supplier of industrial software used for product design, simulation, verification, testing and manufacturing.

“The entire suite of EDA offerings from Mentor are critically important to our vision of growing our customer base,” said Tony Hemmelgarn, president and CEO of Siemens PLM Software.

With approximately $10 billion in investments in multiple software companies since 2007, Siemens has made inroads into the software space with acquisitions including UGS, LMS, Camstar, Polarion and CD-adapco.
