MIP Technology wins Hermes Startup Award 2022

June 2, 2022
The Hermes Startup AWARD 2022 marks the third time that the jury chaired by Professor Reimund Neugebauer, president of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, has honored a young company for the development of an outstanding product. The award this year, for a magnetic information platform developed by MIP Technology, was presented at Hannover Messe by Bettina Stark-Watzinger, German minister for education and research, and Professor Neugebauer.

The award-winning project is a magnetic identification solution as an alternative to optically readable codes and RFID tags. The ID tag is applied beneath a non-magnetic protective layer and integrated into the respective product. This integration can be done by welding, vulcanization or injection. The robustness of the data carriers in terms of thermal and chemical resistance is a particular advantage in industrial applications, as it means that production equipment can be automatically identified and logged. In addition, the product provides dependable protection against plagiarism.

"Startups invigorate the innovation system with fresh ideas, daringness and entrepreneurship; and some approaches can even become real gamechangers," said Neugebauer. "I am very pleased to honor MIP Technology, a young company that is ensuring the secure transport of data with its Magnetic Information Platform (MIP). The highly reliable labeling makes it possible for numerous industries to harness closed-loop processes for components with surface areas subject to heavy wear."

More than 150 startups showcased their innovations at Hannover Messe this year. “The sheer passion with which these young companies go into the market and promote their products is fascinating. I am delighted that the Hermes Startup AWARD has gone to MIP Technology," added Dr. Jochen Köckler, chairman of the managing board of Deutsche Messe.

With the HERMES Startup AWARD, Deutsche Messe annually honors a company that is younger than five years old and whose product or solution has a particularly high level of technological innovation.
