An electronic survey of Control Design readers was conducted in December 2013 in order to identify usage and application trends of sensors and vision among the industrial machine builders that comprise Control Design's readership.

53.3% of respondents report using machine vision-based sensing.

Of those who do use vision-based sensing, 41.7% reported using vision for online inspection, 33.3% use it as feedback for real-time machine control, 11.1% for offline inspection.
