Reader Feedback: A Key Factor of Motivation

It Depends on a Manger's Perspective on the Importance of Others vs. Self

Thanks, Jeremy, for an article well done ("Motivation 101," December ’12)! Recognition is one pain point that is handled very differently by various managers. Some remain aloof and merely "manage," regardless of a subordinate's performance, while a few — a very few — also perform the duties of coach. It seems a key factor is a manager’s perspective on the importance of others vs. self. The prophet Micah explains our duties well in Micah 6:8: "Man, you already know the requirements; execute justice, love mercy and walk humbly with your God."
