Thanks, Jeremy, for an article well done ("Motivation 101," December ’12)! Recognition is one pain point that is handled very differently by various managers. Some remain aloof and merely "manage," regardless of a subordinate's performance, while a few — a very few — also perform the duties of coach. It seems a key factor is a manager’s perspective on the importance of others vs. self. The prophet Micah explains our duties well in Micah 6:8: "Man, you already know the requirements; execute justice, love mercy and walk humbly with your God."
