Embedded Vision Alliance expands scope, rebrands as Edge AI and Vision Alliance

Jan. 29, 2020
It defines edge AI as AI processing that occurs locally, whether on a chip, device, or on-premise and it includes both hybrid approaches where some processing happens locally and some in the cloud

The Embedded Vision Alliance is expanding to encompass the full range of edge AI technology and applications, including its traditional domain of computer vision and visual AI. According to the alliance, to better reflect its new scope it will be changing its name to the Edge AI and Vision Alliance.

For the alliance, it defines edge AI as AI processing that occurs locally, whether on a chip, device, or on-premise and it includes both hybrid approaches where some processing happens locally and some in the cloud.

According to the Edge AI and Vision Alliance, the reason it is expanding is because it is seeing the same challenges in edge AI that it saw in computer vision almost a decade ago. However, the organization remains committed to inspiring and empowering the individuals and companies creating intelligent systems and applications; building a vibrant ecosystem by bringing together technology suppliers, end-product creators, and partners; and delivering timely insights into relevant market research, technology trends, standards and application requirements. The difference is that the mission now includes not just vision but the full range of edge AI technologies and applications.
