Agentic AI in industrial applications

May 20, 2025
Aveva’s demonstration showed how agentic AI can infer meaning from comments and codes, learn company-specific naming rules and unify data into a digital twin model

Agentic AI is particularly relevant for its ability to autonomously interact with complex industrial systems to streamline diagnostics, monitoring and decision-making processes, Automation World reported in a recent article.

The Aveva demo at Aveva World 2025 illustrated how AI agents can automatically create and deploy monitoring tools for assets like condensers based on a simple operator prompt, eliminating the need for manual dashboard coding or scripting. This shift enables engineers to focus on higher-value tasks while AI agents interpret sensor data, recommend thresholds, generate alarms and produce actionable insights in real time — all within the same interfaces plant personnel already use.

Importantly, the system provides transparent traceability of data sources and configurations, which addresses long-standing concerns about AI’s decision-making opacity.

Beyond real-time monitoring, the application of agentic AI to harmonize disparate asset data systems is a game changer for digital transformation efforts. Controls engineers often deal with fragmented datasets from PLCs, SCADA systems, and ERP platforms — all using inconsistent naming conventions or stored in silos.
