CiA releases CAN network time management specification
March 30, 2017
CAN time-stamping standardized.
CAN in Automation (CiA) has released the CiA 603 specification defining the requirements for CAN network time management. This approach is compliant to the Autosar network time management.
The 12-page specification defines the resolution options and a free-running counter. It also can be used in Classical CAN as well as CAN FD networks. According to CiA, the specified hardware approach that requires two CAN messages is compatible with the current software solutions but it is more precise.
