Council of Industry in New York’s Hudson Valley recognizes machine builder’s commitment to training and education

Marty McGill, vice president at Allendale Machinery Systems and longtime friend of the Council of Industry, the manufacturers association of the Hudson Valley in New York, was named as one of the organization’s 2023 Manufacturing Champions.

McGill is also co-owner of Allendale Machinery Systems, a third-generation company that was founded by Thomas McGill in 1981 and is headquartered in Upper Saddle River, New Jersey. It also has offices and showrooms in Troy, New York, and Bohemia, New York. Allendale provides automation, service and support to the metal-working industry.

Thirty-six years ago, Marty McGill began working at Allendale Machinery as a service technician, repairing CNC machinery (Figure 1). Throughout his career, he has held positions in service, sales and management.

Allendale Machinery has made a strong commitment to technical education and workforce training for 30 years, and Marty McGill has been a big supporter of STEAM education for the past 10 years. STEAM education includes science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics.

Through its affiliation with Haas Automation, Allendale has been a key part of the Haas Factory Outlet, which was mentioned in the story about the Gene Haas Foundation Grant being awarded to the University of Tennessee, Knoxville’s Machine Tool Research Center (MTRC).

A few Hudson Valley projects coordinated and funded by Allendale include the Gene Haas Center for Advanced Manufacturing Skills (CAMS) at Hudson Valley Community College, the Haas Innovation Center at Pine Bush Central School High School (Figure 2), the STEAM Center at the Brooklyn Navy Yard and Ulster Boards of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES).

McGill serves as a member of the advisory councils for many local educational and training organizations. His son, Neil, is director of operations at Allendale. He and his wife Marie also have two daughters, Claire and Charlotte.
