Process control experts Greg McMillan and Stan Weiner agree there is a large retention gap in the information students acquire in the classroom compared to the on-the-job application environment. McMillan says internal on-the-job training employees receive when hired often falls to the way side due to an overwhelming number of initial challenges. Weiner says now-a-days there is an even smaller number of experienced personnel to help employees and very little one-on-one guidance. In this article from sister publication Control Global, McMillan and Weiner host an alternating discussion about the future of education for automation engineers.
