Igus, a developer of high-performance polymer machine components, received two awards for its Triflex R TRLF cable carrier at this year's iF product design competition.
Triflex R cable carriers are easy-to-fill and cost-effective designs for three-axis movement ideally in robotic applications because of its smooth movement around the contours of a robot. The latest edition has several links that can be flipped open to fill or retrofit cables and hoses, according to Igus.
A panel of 50 judges agreed that Triflex R was an "e-spool" — a variation on traditional cable drum, exceeding typical standards. The innovative cable carriers are designed to guide cable and hoses telescopically, even in the smallest places. A retention spring provides the correct length and tension of the chain, according to Igus.
Igus has received a total of 26 iF product design awards since 1987. Igus says the company will continue to full its goal to introduce products to the market that combine both function and design.
