Crafting the future of Un-Plastic
Monadnock Paper Mills is reflecting on its place in the history and future of American manufacturing. Founded in 1819 and based in Bennington, New Hampshire, Monadnock crafts and customizes environmentally responsible performance papers for commercial printing, packaging and technical applications (Figure 1). Monadnock is committed to responsible environmental stewardship and maintains that fiber-based alternatives to plastic can be cost-efficient, environmentally sensitive and beautiful.
“Monadnock’s longevity reflects more than its history,” said Chloe Jones, director of marketing & communications at Monadnock Paper Mills. “For over two centuries, the company has adapted to changing market needs while remaining committed to quality, responsible manufacturing, and the continued development of fiber-based materials that help customers make more sustainable choices.”
Monadnock’s domestic manufacturing model allows it to work closely with customers to develop materials around specific performance, aesthetic and production requirements. Monadnock believes that basing its manufacturing in the United States also provides greater supply chain visibility, responsive technical support and opportunities for collaboration.
Environmental responsibility also shapes Monadnock’s operations and product development. The company continues to invest in responsible manufacturing practices and fiber-based products that help customers reduce their reliance on conventional plastic through its Un-Plastic portfolio and broader product development efforts.
Monadnock holds an EcoVadis Platinum sustainability rating, sources FSC-certified fiber, and manufactures its products using Green-e-certified renewable, wind-powered electricity while operating under a third-party-certified ISO 14001 environmental management system.
