Endress+Hauser subsidiaries SpectraSensors and Kaiser Optical Systems have joined forces to form Endress+Hauser Optical Analysis. By consolidating its expertise in the field of laser-based measurement technology, the E+H Group is looking to strengthen its focus on laboratory and process analysis, while positioning itself to provide customers with even better support for analysis tasks in the future.

With its strategic focus on process and laboratory analysis, for years the company has supported customers from product and process development to production, bringing advanced analysis and quality measurements to process engineering applications. The E+H Group generates nearly one-fourth of its sales through analysis technology. The Optical Analysis announcement comes on the heels of Endress+Hauser’s opening its campus in Pearland, Texas, near the end of 2021.

Consolidation under one umbrella

In order to bundle expertise in laser-based measurement principles and create a basis for sustainable growth, the merger of SpectraSensors and Kaiser Optical Systems—two U.S.-based companies acquired by Endress+Hauser almost 10 years ago— into Endress+Hauser Optical Analysis is designed to continue a long history of innovation and offer market-leading product lines for optical analysis.

SpectraSensors specializes in gas analysis with tunable diode laser absorption spectroscopy (TDLAS) technology (Figure 1).

Kaiser Optical Systems, a global provider of Raman spectroscopic analyzers, brings expertise in solid, liquid and gas analysis across a wide range of applications, including vaccine production (Figure 2).

From laboratory to process

“We want to further develop and expand our portfolio for laboratory and process analysis,” said Dr. Manfred Jagiella, who is responsible for the analytical business on the Endress+Hauser executive board. “Together with Endress+Hauser Liquid Analysis and the Analytik Jena subsidiary, Endress+Hauser Optical Analysis forms an important element of our group’s analysis strategy.”

“Our customers expect easy-to-use, robust measurement instruments that fit their applications,” said Managing Director John Schnake, who leads the new unit.

Headquarters

Endress+Hauser Optical Analysis is headquartered in Ann Arbor, Michigan, where Raman spectroscopic instruments are also developed and manufactured (Figure 3). TDLAS instrumentation continues to be produced in Rancho Cucamonga, California. The new company, with around 200 employees, will remain a wholly owned subsidiary of the Endress+Hauser Group.

Endress+Hauser is a family company, founded in 1953 by Georg H. Endress and Ludwig Hauser. It is headquartered in Reinach, Switzerland. With 2.6 billion euros in 2020 revenue and a total workforce of more than 14,000, Endress+Hauser owns sales companies in 50 countries, as well as representatives in another 70 countries. It also operates production facilities on four continents and holds almost 9,000 patents and applications.
