Ubito’s Wiegand sensors respond to changes in external magnetic fields by producing brief pulses of electric current. They are designed for use as rotation detectors in multiturn encoders and fluid flow meters. Regardless of the rotation speed of the instrument’s shaft, a Wiegand-based counting system is designed to detect and record each complete turn. The sensors can be mounted alongside a collar-shaped multi-pole magnet mounted on the shaft, allowing for flexibility in component layout, contributing to more compact designs. The system can be configured to produce multiple signal pulses for each shaft rotation. Wiegand sensors can be used to count other mechanical events, such as a linear or cyclical motions. In support of the Wiegand sensors, Ubito has introduced an ASIC controller chip. Carrying the brand name Ubicycl, the chip functions as a counting register for current pulses. It’s designed to run on energy harvested from the Wiegand sensor. Wiegand sensors and the Ubicycl ASIC are designed for surface-mounted technology and meet RoHS 2 environmental standards. Ubito has combined the Wiegand sensor and Ubicycl chip on a printed circuit board, forming the Ubirev counting module, aimed at applications that could benefit from a compact, battery-free, plug-and-play method for counting mechanical events, such as shaft rotations. In the case of rotary encoders, for example, an Ubivrev module could be used to upgrade a single turn design with multiturn capabilities. The Ubirev module is designed to be mounted beside the rotating shaft.
