The International Manufacturing Technology Show (IMTS) stands as the western hemisphere's largest manufacturing technology trade show, drawing around 100,000 attendees to explore miles of industrial manufacturing equipment. The event serves as an essential, hands-on marketplace where buyers can interact with capital machinery and automation components, collaborate directly with suppliers and solve real-world challenges.

In this video interview, Association for Manufacturing Technology President Doug Woods spotlights the organization’s biennial event (Figure 1).

A major focal point of the show is the Emerging Technology Center (ETC), which highlights forward-looking solutions set to transform manufacturing over the next few years. For instance, a live automated manufacturing cell will demonstrate the rapid, scalable production of custom drones. Integrated with robotics, CNC systems, wire additive technology and AI-driven data collection, this demonstration will feature customized visitor tracks tailored for executives, engineers and machine operators alike.

Beyond core machinery, the event introduces dedicated zones to showcase emerging industry trends, including an expanding section focused on industrial AI applications. Special programming spans investor summits, defense-industry opportunities—such as insights on submarine manufacturing from Navy leadership—and high-tech attractions like supersonic flight simulators and eVTOL demonstrations.
