The automation solutions company has provided the students with hundreds of thousands of dollars’ worth of equipment encountered in today's industrial applications

Georgian College engineering technology students now have real-world equipment thanks to a gift from Omron Automation Americas. The automation solutions company has gifted the college with workforce-relevant technology, bringing its cumulative giving to be worth hundreds of thousands of dollars. Omron is also donating software and providing training to faculty.

"We are proud to be partners with Georgian College, helping students to engage in hands-on learning of automation solutions,” said Peter Brouwer, general manager of Omron Canada. “The latest technologies in motion control, machine safety, HMI, vision, sensors and control components are available and can be tested together in a learning environment that simulates integrated interactions of total machine automation."

Georgian College students will be able to put their knowledge into practice by using a new set of PLCs to simulate assembly line production in one of the college’s electrical labs.

Omron has also partnered with Georgian College’s Centre for Applied Research and Innovation to help a food and beverage client improve its manufacturing process with new electrical and mechanical capabilities.

To honor Omron’s contribution, Georgian College hosted a room-naming dedication on Apr. 25. Remarks were given by Bill Angelakos, cean of technology and visual arts and Brouwer.
